March is Music In Our Schools Month (MIOSM) and Music In Our Schools Month means advocacy!

Music is an integral part of a child’s education, and as Music Educators it often falls on us to advocate for our programs and their continued growth and success. Music In Our Schools Month (MIOSM) is a nation-wide opportunity to advocate and share with our colleagues, school families, and communities what students have learned throughout the year, as well as Music's importance in our lives and cultures. In 2019, the NAfME Council for General Music Education changed the format of Music in Our Schools from a single month-long event to an informance in October that culminates with a performance (post-formance) in March to both celebrate the month and demonstrate student growth throughout the year. Additionally, the World’s Largest Concert was moved to June in a collaborative effort to join with the American Young Voices organization. For more information on the new MIOSM and ideas of how to implement it in your school, please check the links and information below!

In order to better serve Virginia Music Educators, we have created a survey to find out how your schools participates each year and what you would like more information about. The survey can be found in the link below, we appreciate your feedback!
